Eritrean & Ethiopian

Miles from Executive Inn

Shewhat
S

hewhat is chef Abby Dair's love letter to the food she grew up with, serving authentic Eritrean and Ethiopian cooking in North Oakland where the city meets Berkeley. The family-run, Black-owned kitchen builds its dishes around aromatic spices and tender stews scooped up with injera, the spongy sourdough flatbread that turns every meal into a hands-on, shareable affair. First-timers should order the Shewhat Combo to sample the signature tibs, and vegetarians are especially well served with standouts like mushroom tibs and veggie sambusas. Warm, welcoming, and full of flavor. Open for dinner Wednesday through Monday.
