omeroom has been Oakland's temple of mac and cheese since it opened on Valentine's Day in 2011, and the Temescal favorite still does one thing exceptionally well. The menu runs more than a dozen made-to-order varieties — from the smoky, chorizo-spiked Mexican Mac to truffle and jalapeño popper versions — each baked fresh to order. Vegan and gluten-free eaters are well looked after, with cheese-less recipes and quinoa pasta available across the menu. Pull up a seat at the long communal table built from old gym bleachers and dig into the ultimate comfort food. Easy, nostalgic, and genuinely great.
