With a “Love Will Keep Us Together” theme this year, it’ll be an assurance that people of all walks of life will enjoy the Bay Area this June.

If you’re hesitant about witnessing a historical event, continue reading to know some compelling reasons why you should head to the Bay Area this June!

LGBTQ: Gay Pride Parade

Before delving into the reasons why San Francisco is one of the best places to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride, it’s important to talk about the history behind the parade.

San Francisco Pride

San Francisco’s annual parade is one of the most attended LGBTQ events in the U.S. The entire month of June, ever since 1970, will be filled with LGBTQ-themed rallies and parties. After having fun on the streets, the event will culminate in a weekend-long celebration at the end of June.

The celebration will start on a Saturday at the Civic Center Plaza. Meanwhile, the famous Pride Parade will begin on Sunday morning at Beale Street. The parade will end in downtown San Francisco at Market and 8th Street.

Oakland Pride

In addition to San Francisco Pride, you must also consider attending the Oakland Pride, which is the second-largest LGBTQ celebration after San Francisco.

Unfortunately, Oakland Pride was canceled due to COVID-19 last year. However, to retain the tradition, celebrants’ resort to a virtual celebration. Even though there’s no confirmation of the exact date for Oakland Pride this year, people are still hopeful and excited to participate in the most-awaited celebration of love and diversity.

Once the dates are announced, make sure to book a hotel room at Executive Inn & Suites immediately. Since a lot of people are eager to celebrate the gay pride parade in Oakland, expect that hotels will be fully booked. Also, you have to find a comfortable place to relax after enjoying plenty of activities for the entire month. Thus, consider staying at Oakland’s best-reviewed hotel during Oakland pride.

Reasons to go to San Francisco During Pride Month

In addition to the parade itself, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate pride month this June in the Bay Area. For your reference, here are some of the things you can do in San Francisco.

1. Embrace the Atmosphere in The Castro

Considered the center of gay life in San Francisco ever since the 70s, The Castro has a rich history, shopping districts, and bars. In addition to the nightlife (more information below), The Castro offers a variety of restaurants, like Mama Ji’s and Hot Cookie.

Also, when you’re here, don’t forget to stop at the plaque and mural at 575 Castro Street. This is where Harvey Milk’s tribute stands. Harvey Milk was the driving force behind the anti-discrimination legislation, making him an icon for gay civil rights.

2. Enjoy the Nightlife

After grabbing a bite and paying tribute to Harvey Milk, it’s now time to hit the gay bars in San Francisco. Conveniently, the popular ones are just those within Castro Street. Here are some of the best places to meet new LGBTQ friends.

Twin Peaks Tavern

One of the must-visit bars in San Francisco, the Twin Peaks Tavern is one of the first gay bars to open its windows to the public, letting other people know about the LGBTQ lifestyle. With its accessible location and great interiors, this bar should be one of the stops you must make.

Harvey’s

Originally called “The Elephant Walk” in the 70s, this is Harvey Milk’s favorite bar due to the owner’s acceptance of the LGBTQ community. After it was destroyed by a fire, “The Elephant Walk” was renamed “Harvey’s” to pay respect to Milk. Now, Harvey’s is both a bar and a restaurant. It’s also quite popular with the locals.

Last Call Bar

The Last Call Bar is relatively quieter than other bars in San Francisco. Nevertheless, it still has a wonderful vibe, making it a wonderful place for those who want to have a few drinks.

3 . Take the Famous Love Tour

After enjoying the nightlife, you can hop on a classic Volkswagen bus to see the hipster vibe and hippie past that makes San Francisco popular today. The Love Tour starts and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf. During this two-hour sightseeing journey, you get to see Chinatown, the Castro, North Beach, the Mission, and many more! The tour will also allow you to see the homes of Janis Joplin, Hendrix, and The Grateful Dead while listening to 60s-70s music.

Take note that each bus will only accommodate six people. So, if you want to enjoy the tour, make sure to call for a reservation.

4 . Browse the Shopping Districts

San Francisco’s Chestnut Street is composed of stores, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Hence, whether you want to enjoy your morning coffee or pick a new outfit, Chestnut street has it all for you!

Furthermore, if you want something to spruce up your sex life, visit the famous “Does Your Mother Know” adult gift store. The store has a wide range of sex toys, lubricants, and novelties for any gender.

5 . Visit the LGBT Center

The LGBT Center isn’t just a normal purple building located at 1800 Market Street. But it’s a central point for the LGBTQ+ community. It’s even considered the heart of the LGBT community in San Francisco. This is where people who need support, resources, and a safe space gather, providing them comfort and celebration.

As a visitor, you get to enjoy free services. This includes job fairs, counseling, social activities, mentorships, and many more!

Final Words: Representation Matters!

Take note that Pride Month festivities in San Francisco or Oakland aren't an excuse to get drunk and hook up. Rather, it’s an avenue for the LGBTQ+ to celebrate love and respect. To truly enjoy Pride month in San Francisco or Oakland, make sure to book a hotel in advance. Therefore, if you’re planning to attend Pride in Oakland or San Francisco this year, make sure to call Executive Inn & Suites in Oakland for a reservation!
