I'm sure anyone can agree that Oakland's beauty is unrivaled when it comes to redwood forests. Redwood park officials really thought out the functionality of their trails with hikers in mind. Follow us on our journey of this Skyline Blvd trail, and check out our video to see Cameron & Diego (& Brandon too) in action at the French Trail & Steam Trail Loop in Oakland.
Located just 15 minutes from Downtown Oakland, getting to this Skyline Blvd. hiking trail is a breeze. Once you've arrived, you'll notice convenient & spacious parking, as well as a bathroom facility if you need it before or after the hike. Don't forget to fill up your water bottles before heading out.
Starting the Hike:
When you start, you'll notice you can either make a left or right. We highly suggest you make a right, as this will avoid a steep uphill incline at the end of your hike. On your return you will experience a gradual incline instead.
Time of Day:
Of course the time of day you make the hike is best determined by the season, however, the best views are experienced during sunrise or sunset during the "Golden Hour." We started the hike a few hours before sunset, and we were amazed at how beautiful it was as we were finishing our hike. Definitely worth it.
Equipment & Supplies:
Since this is a moderate hike, it is up to you how prepared you are. We went with a couple bottles of water & a good pair of running shoes, which did the trick. However, since my shoes were a little lose, my feet began to hurt early in the hike. My suggestion would be to wear running shoes or hiking boots that fit you well and are tight.
